IOMSC: Shooting Conditions
 50 metre ISSF rifle shooting in the Isle of Man Print version

CONDITIONS FOR SHOOTING ON THE SINCLAIR RANGE

1      The Range is generally available for use by members of the Isle of Man Shooting Club and Approved Range Users. Application forms for membership of the Club (for which fees are payable) or Approved Range User status (which is free) may be obtained from the Secretary or from the Clubhouse at the Sinclair Range.  A form may also be downloaded from the Library.  Special provisions apply for open shoots, club hires and similar events but in all circumstances, in order that the Club may control usage of the Range and fulfil its obligations both to its insurers and to other range users that only safe practices are employed, all users require to be documented in one form or another. A special Group Shooting Form is available for recording the details of persons who are neither Isle of Man Shooting Club members nor Approved Range Users.

2      Only .22 (5.6 mm) rimfire match rifles may be used.

3      Only standard velocity, rimfire .22 (5.6 mm) long rifle ammunition, which is primarily produced for match target shooting, may be used. Under no circumstance is high velocity ammunition permitted.

4      All shooting must be conducted under the supervision of an Approved Range Officer and in accordance with the Range Standing Orders, a copy of which is displayed in the Clubhouse.  Further copies of the Range Standing Orders must be displayed, one at each end of the firing point, while shooting is in progress.

5      The 4 red warning flags must be raised before any shooting takes place. The positions of these flags are -

  • the 2 poles at either end of the top of the bank behind the targets;

  • the pole by the bridge at the bottom of the access road to the site;

  • the pole behind the Clubhouse on the south side of the site.

6      Fire extinguishers must be placed in position alongside the signs at the rear of the firing point.

7      It is the responsibility of the Approved Range Officer -

(a)    prior to the commencement of shooting to ensure the range is free from potential ricochet inducing objects;

(b)    to satisfy him/herself that the Range Standing Orders are being complied with at all times and that shooting is being conducted safely;

(c)    to sign the Range Officer Book prior to conducting a shooting session and to ensure his/her name is posted as the Range Officer conducting the session;

(d)    to ensure no equipment is used on the range which is unduly noisy when compared with the regular noise emission from modern Anschutz or Walther match target rifles;

(e)    to ensure that fire precautions and emergency procedures are complied with at all times.

8      All shooters must sign the Range Users Register each time they use the Range.
