Temporary Visitors' Firearm and Airgun Permits
Please read this section carefully. It is very important, especially if this is your first shooting visit to the Isle of Man.
The Isle of Man is not part of the United Kingdom and neither is it a member state of the European Union. It is a separate jurisdiction with its own legal system which means that FACs and Shotgun Certificates issued in the United Kingdom, and European Firearm Passes, are not valid in the Island.
Unlike most of the UK, all airguns are regulated in the Isle of Man, together with cartridge firearms and crossbows. Manx law, however, still permits the holding of cartridge pistols and pistol competitions feature heavily in the Easter Festival programme.
Visitors to the Island require temporary permits, issued by the Isle of Man Police, for all guns and cartridge ammunition, including air rifles and pistols. It is a straightforward process, however, and all the details are here for you. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to drop us an email or a quick call.
An 'Application For Temporary Firearm Permit' form (2 pages) can be downloaded below. Use this form both for cartridge firearms and airguns. Please return it accurately completed, along with your other entry details, to the Organisers at the address at the bottom of this page (not direct to the Police) as early as possible with an accompanying photocopy of your FAC. The Organisers will submit it on your behalf. On this basis there is no fee.
The closing date for permit applications to be received, to guarantee processing by the Police, is Saturday 4th March 2017.
The requirement for the Police to have issued a temporary permit before your arrival in the Isle of Man is mandatory and its importance cannot be over stressed.
